Government's changes to migration rules could damage UK's science future
The success of the UK's science sector is underpinned by the success of our international scientific collaboration.
From cutting-edge university research and promising, innovative SMEs to FTSE 100 giants, our scientific endeavour competes in a global race for talent. For UK science to continue to flourish, it needs to operate in a stable, long-term framework.
We are deeply concerned that changes to skilled visas, student visas and fees announced this week will prevent the UK from attracting international scientists and hinder our ambitions of becoming a global science superpower.
We are seeking urgent reassurances from the UK Government and to work with relevant departments to minimise the impacts on our community and its ability to make the world a better place, ensuring the UK can continue to welcome scientists and their families from around the world – and UK science continues to benefit from their outstanding contributions.
