Welcome to the East Anglia Local Section covering Norfolk and Suffolk. Our prime objective is to attempt to bring the membership - both active and retired - into a coherent grouping through a full and varied programme of technical, scientific, school, and social events. We aim to support our members, and to make the general public aware of the importance of chemical sciences, by:
- Organising networking events and social occasions for all the working and retired members in our area. Examples include retired members lunches, gourmet dinners, etc.
- Running symposia and lectures in collaboration with the local universities and industry. Recently we have held a series of online webinars covering a diverse range of topics such as Covid induced anosmia, making chemistry work for refugees, and developments in the chocolate industry! As many of our members indicated they find these on-line webinars to be both interesting and more inclusive we will continue with them.
- Supporting school liaison programmes and organising local participation in the RSC "Top of the Bench" Competition
- Participating in the support to members resident in our area from the Chemists’ Community Fund program of work
If you are interested in holding a school’s lecture, an evening lecture, participating in an event, or contributing in any other way to the Local Section and the RSC please contact our Secretary via the form below.
We have an active committee made up of members at different stages of their careers in a variety of fields, all related to chemistry. Within the committee, as well as the Officer positions of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, we have specific roles covering education, industry, social activities, webinars, and social media.
We regularly seek new members from the local area to help our committee plan future events, whether that be as a committee member, or perhaps less formally by just coming along to one of our regular committee meetings. You can also meet the Committee and other members at our AGM, which is held each year in January. You can read the minutes of the 2021 AGM to see what we discussed.
We support small bursary grants to support members in their career development through attendance at conferences where members will be presenting a talk or a poster, including applications for fee paying virtual conferences. Download the bursary application form here.
