Liverpool

In the UK and Ireland we have 35 Local Sections working to support our members and the wider community in their area. Our Local Sections are each run by a committee of volunteers who help direct the annual programme of events. These events include scientific lectures, public lectures, networking events, schools activities and social events.

Who are we?

The Liverpool RSC Local Section is the oldest local section in the UK having been formed in 1918. We serve the whole of Liverpool, Merseyside, the Wirral and the Isle of Man together with parts of Cheshire and Lancashire. Its area includes the cities of Liverpool and Chester and major centres of the Chemical Industry including Warrington, Widnes, Runcorn and the Wirral.

What do we do?

As a committee we aim to promote chemistry to all age groups through a variety of events for both members and non-members alike. We organise several events throughout the year covering the educational, scientific and continuing professional development (CPD) interest areas. We also hold a  number of social and other events, including events targeted specifically at younger and retired members. We are involved in organising the Top of the Bench school competition as part of the national event and in the past have organised public lectures on various chemistry topics delivered by active and retired scientists.

How are we structured?

We have an active committee made up of members at different stages of their careers in a variety of fields, all related to chemistry. Within the committee, as well as the Officer positions of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, we have specific roles covering education, industry, social activities and social media.

How can I get involved?

We always love hearing from you to see how we can help you, whether that be by organising an event, training or a lecture, so please email us via the form below and let us know where your interests lie. We regularly seek new members to help our committee plan future events, whether that be as a committee member, or perhaps less formally by just coming along to one of our regular committee meetings. You can also meet the Committee and other members at our AGM which is held each year in May.
